Blogroll names

This is a question for those of you who know about blogging, particularly as it applies to WordPress.com:

I’ve got a blogroll (list) of ‘blogs I follow’ in the sidebar of my homepage, using the WordPress.com RSS widget and Google Reader to supply the feed.  The idea is that it shows my favourite blogs, with the most recently updated always at the top of the list.

However, the titles of the listed blogs in this blogroll are meaningless, as they are the headings of the latest blog posts, not the names of the blogs themselves.   Plus the link only takes you to that specific article, not to that blog’s homepage.

Can anyone please tell me if there is any way to configure this blogroll to show the name of the blog rather than the name of the latest posting?

Ideally I want something like the blogroll at the bottom of the right sidebar in this (non-Wordpress) blog:

http://steve-the-wargamer.blogspot.com/

It shows the blog’s name and when it was last updated, and re-sorts them so the most recently updated blog is at the top of the list. I’ve found this really user-friendly, and so it is what I would like to provide here on my blog.

By the way, apologies to those who have terrific wargames blogs, but can’t see them on my list yet.  The reason for this is that I’m not updating the list until I can sort out this problem.
